Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity: Review: Patran’s Decision
Episode 15 shifts the spotlight from the main Gavan trio to Patran, and it pays off. The case-of-the-week is a tense string of building bombings on MultiEarth A0073, and Patran, fresh off passing Gavan’s tests, charges in determined to earn his own “major achievement.” What works here is how the script uses the ticking-clock bomb threat to force Patran’s character growth: he’s not just comic relief anymore.
When he rushes the scene only to find the First Investigative Division, Reiji, and Date already there, the episode cleverly frames his insecurity and drive without slowing the pacing. The decision he makes under pressure, putting himself directly in harm’s way to protect the city, lands as the first time Patran feels like a real Space Sheriff candidate instead of a wannabe.
Tone-wise, “Patran’s Decision” balances Gavan Infinity’s usual high-energy tokusatsu spectacle with a more grounded procedural beat. The Records Division cameo from Reiji and Date is a nice touch for continuity, and the episode doesn’t overplay the guest-hero trope, they’re there, but Patran carries the stakes.
If you’ve been following Project RED’s push to flesh out the wider Galaxy Federal Police roster, this is the strongest side-character focus so far. It’s not the flashiest fight episode, but it’s one of the more emotionally coherent ones, giving Patran actual agency instead of just slapstick.
